Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. Volvo S60: Which Luxury Sedan Wins Out in Miami, FL

If you think a luxury car should be thrilling to drive as well as luxurious inside, get the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. This small luxury sedan has a sleek design and nimble handling. It's also brimming with enjoyable standard tech features. The new Volvo S60 is also a refined luxury car with a nice interior, but it doesn't offer Coral Gables drivers as much pizzazz as the new Giulia. The Collection Alfa Romeo created the following comparison to help you see why.

Performance

Ride and Handling

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia has precise steering and stout brakes that make it exciting to drive on winding roads in South Miami. Its sophisticated chassis enables buttoned-down handling with minimal body roll around turns. The Giulia's double-wishbone front suspension and 50/50 weight balance keep its ride gentle and composed on pavement. Standard rear-wheel drive gives the Giulia better weight distribution for a more engaging driving experience.

The new Volvo S60 rides comfortably on its well-tuned suspension, but it's not as athletic as the Giulia. The S60's ride is tuned for comfort more than corner carving.

Horsepower and Acceleration

You'll have no problem merging onto the Don Shula Expressway in Miami with the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. It comes standard with a turbocharged 280-horsepower four-cylinder engine that puts out 306 pound-feet of torque. An available twin-turbocharged 505-horsepower V6 makes 443 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the Alfa Romeo Giulia can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

The new Volvo S60 comes with a turbocharged 247-horsepower four-cylinder engine that produces 258 pound-feet of torque. An optional plug-in-hybrid powertrain puts out 455 horsepower. It takes 4.0 seconds for the Volvo S60 Recharge PHEV to go from 0 to 60 mph.

Interior

Passenger Room

Like most sedans, the new Alfa Romeo Giulia has seating for five people in two rows. However, Kendall, FL drivers will have more room to relax in the Giulia, which has 42.4 inches of front legroom and 38.6 inches of front headroom. Backseat passengers will enjoy 37.6 inches of headroom in the Giulia.

The new Volvo S60 also seats five passengers. However, it only has 42.3 inches of front legroom and 37.4 inches of front headroom. The S60 also has just 37.2 inches of rear headroom.

Cargo Space

You'll have plenty of room to stow the items you bought at Brickell City Centre in the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. Its 13.4 cubic-foot trunk comes standard with a power trunk lid. Giulia Quadrifoglio models have a split-folding rear seat that aids in fitting long items, such as skis.

The new Volvo S60 only has 11.6 cubic feet of trunk space. Its rear seats do fold down to help accommodate longer items.

Cabin Materials

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia has a sporty, luxe cabin with standard leather upholstery, aluminum accents, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Round air vents and circular gauges give it a retro appearance. Available Crema Cannelloni leather-trimmed seats and leather door panels add even more refinement.

The new Volvo S60 also has a well-appointed interior, but it comes with synthetic leather upholstery. Genuine leather seats are available, but you have to pay more for a higher trim to get them.

Infotainment System

You'll have no issues with operating the Alfa Romeo Giulia's infotainment system while you're driving in the Florida Keys. Along with touch-screen controls, there are physical knobs and buttons to operate some functions. In addition to Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone integration, the Giulia also comes standard with a navigation system and wireless device charging.

The new Volvo S60 also has an intuitive infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. However, navigation and wireless device charging do not come standard in the S60, so you have to spend more if you want to add them.

Safety

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia earned the highest rating of Good in the five crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It comes standard with a plethora of driver assistance features that help Miami drivers avoid accidents. Optional driver aids include traffic-jam assist, which manages the Giulia's braking, acceleration, and steering in low-speed traffic conditions for safer city driving.

The new Volvo S60 also comes with a slew of standard advanced active safety features, but traffic-jam assist is not available.

Exterior Design

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia will draw you in with its graceful proportions and fluid lines. Its curvy fenders and chiseled sides will turn heads in Coral Gables. In front, the Giulia's signature "scudetto" shield-style grille is flanked by avian-inspired headlights. A rounded roofline and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels complete its athletic appearance.

The new Volvo S60 also has a dashing profile, but it's not quite as distinguished as the Giulia.
